Upon its debut in 1950, Lancia’s Aurelia was immediately hailed as a technical tour de force. Spearheaded by the legendary engineer Vittorio Jano, the Aurelia introduced many cutting-edge features, including a rear-mounted transaxle, four-wheel independent suspension, rear inboard brakes, and a narrow-angle alloy V-6. Based on the updated 2.5-liter B20 GT, the Pinin Farina-bodied B24 Spider America and Cabriolet were among the most beautiful, highest-quality Italian sports cars of their era. Between 1956 and 1958, just 521 left-hand-drive Cabriolets were built.
According to Registro Aurelia, this B24S Cabriolet, chassis 1546, was completed in March 1958, originally finished in Celeste (Light Blue) over natural leather. The Lancia’s earliest known owner was David Reed of Oakland, California, whose father had purchased it in July 1967. Mr. Reed advertised the Aurelia for sale in Road & Track and, in 1971, sold it to Dr. Bruno Zwerenz of Missouri, a member of the American Lancia Club. Remarkably, the Aurelia remained in Dr. Zwerenz’s ownership until 2023, when it was sold to the consignor. Never comprehensively restored, exhibited, or offered at auction, this Aurelia Cabriolet is ideal for the enthusiast in search of a compelling restoration project. Equipped with a desirable Nardi twin-carburetor kit and retaining its original engine per factory build records, this Lancia is offered with a trove of assorted spares, tools, a jack, and file of records dating back to the late 1960s. Presented here is a rare opportunity to acquire a true connoisseur’s sports car.
